The Sinology Institute was founded in 2005 and is a fully licensed private language school in Beijing’s old town. As such, the school operates under supervision of the municipal ministry of education and is subject to yearly quality audits. As a result, the school has won the title of star-rated school of Beijing’s West District two years in a row in 2012 and 2013.

Chinese classes

Regardless of whether you take a short-term or long-term program, you will study four hours of Chinese from Monday to Friday while having the weekend and official school holidays off. The classes take place in the mornings and early afternoons and are separated in Speaking and Listening and Reading classes. If you are interested you may also participate in writing classes.

Progress in Mandarin Chinese is best measured through the HSK test levels. The HSK test is the standardized testing system for Mandarin Chinese as a foreign language, much like TOEFL for English. The HSK levels range from level 1 to level 6. After one semester of full time study you will be able to reach level 3. After a whole year you will be able to reach level 5 or even better.

From climbing the Great Wall, Kung Fu class, to visiting the Great Pandas at the Beijing Zoo, our cultural activities encompass all the things you want to have done before leaving Beijing. At the same time, our helpful staff will always be happy to help you when it comes to planning your weekend trip or long distance vacation.

The Sinology Institute has more than eight years of experience getting students the right visas, so we can make this administrative chore all the more simple and straight-forward for you.

We work with local estate agents, hotels and hostels to offer our students a choice in housing in line with their budgets and preferences.

Optional: Pre-arrival online Chinese classes

The Sinology Institute cooperates with StudyHSK website to provide Mandarin Chinese courses prior to your arrival via the internet. StudyHSK features a proprietary curriculum teaching Mandarin Chinese in a systematized, structured and measurable fashion.
